Army ‘Operation Group’ reviews NE situation
Guwahati, Apr. 5 (HS): In the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls, the ‘Operations Group’ of all security agencies on Friday reviewed prevailing security situation of the Northeastern region. The high-level security review meeting of senior Army officials, intelligence officials along with representatives from civil administration and central armed police forces of Assam and from union ministry of home affairs was held by the Operations Group at Narengi Army cantonment here, defence sources said in a statement today. “A review of the prevailing security situation in the entire Northeast in general and Assam in particular was carried out during the meeting. Conduct of the event assumes importance since, it was organised in the run up to the Parliamentary elections, scheduled in the second and third week of April in Assam,” defence PRO Lt Col P Khongsai said. The meeting also brought to light the requirement to take proactive measures to avoid any adverse law order situation in the wake of recent developments over Citizenship Amendment Bill, ST Bill and other contentious issues, the statement said. “All the issues covering intelligence, law order and the CI/CT operations were deliberated upon and plans formulated to ensure an incident free conduct of the Parliamentary elections” the PRO added.He said the meeting, which was chaired by Lt Gen Manoj Pande, GOC Gajraj Corps was attended by DGP Kuladhar Saikia, Ashutosh Agnihotri, commissioner secretary (home political dept), Hiren Nath, IGP (SB), Tapan Kumar Deka, additional director SIB (MHA).
