Illegal gun factory with huge arms unearthed in Kolkata
Kolkata, Apr.4 (HS): In a major success, members of the Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police today unearthed an illegal gun factory at a remote locality in Rajarhat,on the South Western outskirts of the City,and recovered a huge cache of semi finished arms and large quantity of ammunition from there. Informing this sources at state police headquarters at Lalbazar told Hindusthan Samachar here this evening that acting on a tip off a team of STF officials raided a two storied building at Narayanpur area, at the far end of the city''s IT hub Rajarhat, at around 5-30 p.m. and recovered a large number of semi finished 7 mm, 9 mm pistols and single shot guns from there along with hundreds of live cartridges of different sizes. One lathe machine was also found inside the building for making these arms.However none could be found or arrested from the gun factory or near its vicinity as all its employees, who believed to have come from Munger in Bihar, fled before the raid was conducted,the police said. A massive manhunt had already been launched to nab the culprits as well as the owner of the house, the police said adding the gun factory was being run in the guise of a small handicrafts making unit. Describing it as one of their major successes before the elections,the police said similar raids would be conducted round the clock during the next couple of months across the state to ensure a free,fair and peaceful elections in West Bengal,as directed by the Election Commission. It may be recalled that since the elections were announced on 10 March, more than 300 countrymade pistols,revolvers, pipe guns and one shoter guns have so far been recovered from different places along with huge number of live cartridges. In addition unaccounted gold bars, gold biscuits, gold ornaments and hard cash worth more than Rs 250 crores have also been seized by the STF and Excise officials during the past three weeks in Bengal.
