Rijiju talks against use of money power in polls
Union Minister says, there should be free and fair election for a strong and transparent govt Itanagar, Apr 04 (HS): “There should be free and fair election for a strong and transparent government and we need to discard use of money and muscle power,” said Union Minister of State for Home and Arunachal West parliamentary constituency candidate Kiren Rijiju. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the BJP election rally at Doimukh in Arunachal Pradesh on recovery of huge cash from a VIP vehicle at Pasighat, Rijiju said that he never lured voters by paying money. “Nobody should use money power and the said recovery is a matter of investigation and I have no proper information about it,” Rijiju said. The Congress on Wednesday had alleged that a "cash for votes" scam was busted in Arunachal Pradesh with the recovery of Rs 1.8 crore in cash from Chief Minister Pema Khandu''s convoy and asked the poll panel to register a case against Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as the Chief Minister and his deputy. The cash was recovered on the eve of Modi’s visit to the state. Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) general secretary and spokesperson Chera Taya while briefing the media said that election is the festival of democracy and it is the hope of the educated society. Instead of laying down vision document for future, it has been found that the leaders belonging to BJP believe in power of currency which is unfortunate. Government machinery is being misused and money being circulated. The currency recovered from the convoy of Chief Minister is a clear cut violation of model code of conduct, he said. It is matter of great concern that the BJP is distributing money brought in CM’s convoy which is a clear misuse of Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) and Election Commission should take strong action so that it can give a clear message to the general public, he added. Peoples Party of Arunachal (PPA) president Kahfa Bengis said that the party in power is misusing the government machinery and CMO and questioned why Election Commission is not taking action. The EC should immediately cancel the candidature of the said BJP candidate. Referring to alleged physical assault on the magistrate in front of Deputy Commissioner in Kurung Kumey district by BJP candidate, he said that the people of the state wanted to know what action has been initiated by the Commission and state government till date. While condemning the killings in Tirap and Longding related to election, Rijiju said, army has been alerted and action initiated. No candidate should use militants in election and if anyone is found using them, the home ministry will take strict action, Rijiju added. PRC fiasco: Rijiju further alleged that the recent PRC fiasco was the handiwork of opposition and that he had no role in it. He claimed that Congress was the first to promise PRC to the non-APSTs of Lekang constituency. “Last year during a Congress rally at Lekang, APCC president Takam Sanjoy along with leaders like Jarjum Ete and Bida Taku promised PRC to them. Fearing that voters may favour the Congress, the state BJP leaders panicked and went ahead with announcement of granting PRC as new year gift which was a mistake,” said Rijiju. He also added that due to politics over this issue three innocent youths lost their lives. “Takam Sanjoy who was vocal on PRC issue is now fighting election from Lekang assembly constituency. Is this not politicization of the whole issue,” he asked. Rijiju also stated that his two main opponents in the Lok Sabha election are being forced to contest.
