Congress mentions  AFSPA amendment, scrap sedition laws in manifesto for LS 2019
New Delhi, 02 April(HS): The controversial AFSPA(Armed Forces Special Powers Act) found a special mention in the manifesto released by the Congress on Tuesday ahead of the coming Lok Sabha polls. The Congress in its election manifesto released promised changes to the law concerning special powers granted to the armed forces in the insurgency hit states of Jammu & Kashmir and north-east India. The Congress while discussing its manifesto made reference to AFSPA again on the discussion of J&K wherein the Armed Forces(Special Forces)Act and the Disturbed Areas Act would be reviewed to strike a balance between requirements of national security and protecting human rights. If voted to power, the Congress promised the scrapping of the colonial era formed, sedition law under the 124-A of the IPC.
