Woman killed; five others injured in Pak shelling
All private and government schools in the radius of five kilometer from LoC have been closed Poonch, Apr 02 (HS): After Border Security Force (BSF) officer martyred and a minor girl was killed later in the night, a woman was also killed and five persons were injured in Pak shelling in Mankote Sector of Poonch district. In the wake of tension on border, district administration has decided to close all private and government schools in the radius of five kilometer from LoC for today. Police said, the injured tally has now risen to 22 including five security personnel and 17 civilians were injured in cross-border shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir till late night. It is pertinent to mention here that yesterday an officer of the inspector rank of Border Security Forces was martyred and a minor was killed in Pakistan shelling in Poonch area. Locals said, the shelling which erupted in different areas of Poonch district continued till this morning claiming three precious lives. Locals said, yesterday morning Pakistani army violated cease fire and opened indiscriminate fire in civilian areas and at Army posts. Defense sources said that Pakistani army were using mortars, rocket launchers and the exchange of fire continued till early this morning. Many Pakistani posts were also destroyed in Indian retaliatory action. Frustrated with Indian retaliatory action, Pakistani Army is targeting civilian areas and local population Khaleeq Ahmed, a resident of Mankote said that Pak army resorted to heavy shelling. It opened fire towards our side in civilian areas and targeted our villages. We moved to safer places but one lady of our village died late last night and five others were injured in Pak shelling. Many houses were also damaged. SSP Poonch Ramesh Kumar Angral said that the Indo-Pak armies exchanged heavy shelling since yesterday morning with mortars and small arms in many sectors of Poonch district. He said three persons including a minor, a BSF Inspector and a lady lost their lives. A total of 22 persons including 5 Army and BSF jawans were injured in Pak shelling.
