Special Police Observer held meetings with political parties
Kolkata, Apr.1 (HS): Vivek Dube, the newly appointed Special Police Observer in West Bengal here today held a series of meetings with all recognised political parties separately to get first hand views from them about the overall law and order situation in the state and the necessity for deploymemnt of Central Para militaty forces in all the 77,000 odd polling booths across the 42 paliamentary constituencies. Though all these important meetings were held in presence of State Chief Electoral Officer(CEO) Ariz Aftab and other senior Eelection Commission Officials, the BJP delegation, led by Mukul Roy,declined to meet Dube in presence of the CEO because of his alleged partiality in favour of the ruling Trinamool Congress. According to MuKul Roy,they had enough evidences that all issues discussed with the CEO in camera during the past few days, were deliberately leaked from the CEO''s office and all information were given out to the ruling party leaders. ''This cannot be and must not be done and continued,as this was a clear violation of Model Code of Conduct'',he said and emphasized the need to hold today''s meeting with the Special Police Observer in absence of the CEO, which was, however, granted by Dube.Later Dube, the former Assitance Director General Police in Andhra Pradesh, who arrived here last night after being appointed by the Election Commission last week following the sudden removal of his predecessor in the state K K Sharma, the former Director General of BSF,refused to make any comment about his ''detailed discussions'' with all recognised political parties. But when asked about the possibility of declaring each of the 77,000 odd polling stations in the state as ''sensitive or super sensitive'', as demanded by major opposition parties comprising BJP, Congress and CPI-M Dube said he was looking into it.
