Civilian injured as border shelling erupts in Poonch
Poonch, Apr 01 (HS): A civilian was injured as cross border shelling erupted in Shahur and Kirni areas of Poonch district this morning. Pakistani army has also opened indiscriminate firing in Mendhar and Mankote areas, when reports last came in. With no let up in cease fire violation, this morning shelling erupted at Shahpur and Kirni areas of Poonch District. Locals said, Pakistani army violated cease fire and opened indiscriminate fire in civilian areas and army posts. Pakistani army were using mortars, rocket launchers. Ghulam Rasool, a local said, when I was moving towards Poonch town, all of a sudden Pakistani Army opened fire towards our side. I hurriedly moved to safer place and later on reached Poonch. He said, many of our houses were damaged in Pakistani firing. Police said, Indo-Pak armies exchanged heavy shelling from today morning with mortars and small arms in these sectors. In the shelling, one civilian namely Mohd Sharief, resident of Mendhar suffered minor injuries. He was immediately reffered to district hospital, Poonch. SSP Poonch Ramesh Kumar Angral while confirming it said that Pakistani Army in violation of ceasefire attacked several Indian Army posts in these areas. “The Army manning the fence responded the shelling effectively”, he said.
