Massive blow to TMC in Bengal as Arjun Singh joins BJP
Says, decided to leave TMC after Mamata questioned the truth behind the Balakot airstrike Claims, Maa, Mati, Manush govt has now been converted into a party only for Money and Money Reiterates, happy to get opportunity to serve people in association with his former leader Mukul Kolkata, Mar 14 (HS): Putting all speculations to rest and providing a huge blow to the Trinamool Congress, one of its leading and most powerful legislators in West Bengal Arjun Singh today formally joined BJP ending over his 30 years of association with TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee. Drawing a clear line about his political future in West Bengal after the Chief Minister declined his request to nominate him for the Barackpore Lok Sabha seat and renominated former Railway minister Dinesh Trivedi from there, Arjun Singh, TMC MLA from Bhatpara in North 24 Parganas district, left for Delhi and joined BJP at the party headquarters there today in presence of senior party leader Mukul Roy and BJP Central Observer Kailash Vijayvargiya among others. Later, expressing his happiness to join BJP, Singh said he in fact had decided to leave TMC after Mamata Banerjee questioned the truth behind the Balakot airstrike by IAF pilots. ''When the entire country was looking for a suitable response to the Phulwama terrorist attack which claimed 40 lives of our CRPF jawans, she wanted proof and criticised the airstrike without caring for our sentiments'', Singh said and claimed that the ''Maa, Mati, Manush'' government of Mamata had now been converted in to a party only for ''Money, Money and Money. I could not breath any fresh air within the party'', (TMC), Singh said and reiterated how happy he was in getting an opportunity to serve the people in association with his former leader Mukul Roy. Meanwhile, according to Vijayvargiya, the joining of Singh to BJP was only the tip of an iceberg and claimed that several more such heavyweight leaders from TMC would soon join. It is interesting to note that Chief Minister herself during a meeting here last night indicated that some of her party colleagues and leaders might leave the party after being rejected by her for seeking plum posts. Now, it remains to be seen how Arjun Singh''s political maturity and his influence among the people and party workers in his Assembly constituency at Bhatpara would help BJP in strengthening the party''s position and political prospects in West Bengal in the coming Lok Sabha elections.
