Mamata holds meeting with party MLA's to prevent possible exodus to BJP
Kolkata, Mar.11 (HS):In order to stop the possibility of large scale exodus of Trinamool Congress leaders to BJP and other political parties before the seven phase Lok Sabha elections,West Bengal Chief minister Mamata Banerjee held an urgent meeting with two senior party leaders here today in a desperate bid to keep the party flocks together. Expressing serious concern at media reports that senior party leader and Bhatpara MLA Arjun Singh might join BJP if he was not offered the Barrackpore Lok Sabha seat in North 24 Parganas this time, replacing sitting MP Dinesh Trivedi, the Chief minister called him at the state Secretariat Nabanna this afternoon to try to bring an end to the issue once and for all, besides reportedly asking him to desist from any anti party activities before the month long crucial poll or face stern action like suspension. According to sources, though the outcome of the meeting which was held in presence of Dinesh Trivei, the sitting MP from Barrackpore, was not known immediately,it was expected that Singh was told in no uncertain terms by the Chief minister, not to maintain any link- direct or even indirect- with senior BJP leader Mukul Roy, considerded to be a close ally of Singh for long.''I have heard that you were in touch with Roy recently'', she said and reprimanded him in her usual manner. It may be recalled that Sabyasachi Dutta, another TMC legislator and the Mayor of Bidhannagar municipality in Salt Lake area, was also reprimanded by the Chief minister yesterday after Mukul Roy went to his house and spent some time with Dutta, raising the curiosity among the workers of his joining the BJP soon. Though Dutta categorically denied any such possibility and described his entertaining Roy in his house was a ''grave mistake'' in the wake of current opposite stance of the two rival political parties, he had to make a public apology in front of local media last night causing more confusion among the general public. Now it remains to be seen whether any other leader of TMC or for that matter any other senior party worker is willing to join BJP before the coming poll,as is being claimed by BJP here,or it is just a part of a political game to encourage exodus from one party to another for political gain.
