Maoist-hit districts in Bihar to go to polls on April 11
Patna, Mar 11 (HS): The Maoist-hit four districts of Bihar will go to polls on April 11 in the first phase. According to the schedule released by the chief election officer, H Sriniwas Rao here, Jamui, Nawada, Aurangabad and Gaya will have polling in the first phase, exactly a month from now. Nawada is represented by the union minister for medium and small scale industries, Giriraj Singh in Lok Sabha. Jamui is represented by LJP parliamentary board chairman, Chirag Paswan. Sushil Kumar Singh and Hari Manjhi,both BJP were elected from Aurangabad and Gaya, respectively. All the four seats facing polls in the first phase are represented by the NDA nominees. These districts are still active in left wing extremism and 75 per cent of Maoists violence. Since 2014, there had been 129 cases of Maoists violence. In 2014, 32 died, in 2015, 17 and in 2016, 28 were killed in Maoist violence in these four districts. The 600 kms forest stretch bordering Jharkhand and covering the four districts are still in the grip of Maoists violence, though the central para-military forces are active in eliminating their camps. The security personnel lost 22 of their jawans and officers in Maoists violence in these districts in last five years.
