Election Commission announces the dates for 2019 Lok Sabha Elections Poll announcement sets in motion a highly-anticipated political contest New Delhi, Mar 10 (HS): The Election Commission has announced that Lok Sabha polls 2019 will be held in 7 phases from April 11. Addressing a press conference at Plaenary Hall, Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi today to announce the poll schedule, EC said that the term of the present Lok Sabha ends on the 3rd of June. The model code of conduct will come into force with the poll schedule announcement. Sunil Arora, Chief Election Commissioner said that assessment meetings were held with states and UTs through all of January. EC also held deliberations with several key departments, visited states and UTs. He further said that interactions were held with political parties followed by presentation by CEO of states. “Examination schedules of various state boards, CBSE, festivals, harvest season were kept in mind,” he added. Health of rolls was monitored constantly and updation will continue. 15 million new voters have been added this year, he said. Election Commission has made extensive preparations for 17th Lok Sabha polls. Elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure smooth conduct of free and fair election. Any violation of model code of conduct will be dealt with strictly. Special observers will be sent to sensitive states and locations, he added. Hindusthan Samachar/Shri Ram Shaw
