Sonowal urges youth to follow footsteps of Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah
Says, Sri Sri Aniruddha Dev Sports University would become a centre of excellence in sports Guwahati, Mar 10 (HS): Urging the youth to follow the footsteps of Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah to achieve success in sports arena, the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has said that Sri Sri Aniruddha Dev Sports University would become a centre of excellence in sports and state’s youth would be able to achieve success in various sports at the world stage through this university. Chief Minister thanked the land donors for Sri Sri Aniruddha Dev Sports University to be set up at Chabua and said that they are giving a gift to state’s youth to establish themselves in various sports disciplines while bringing laurels to state and the country. He was here to launch a slew of projects. Saying that the state government has been taking a lot of steps for empowering the youth through skill development, the Chief Minister urged the young generation to take advantage of facilities like recently opened North East Skill Centre at Guwahati and Skill City which is being set up at Mangaldoi following an MoU between Singapore Government and Assam Government. Once the youth acquires high quality skills than only they would be able to find employment in any part of the country and the world, he said. Highlighting central governments’ land mark investment of Rs.40,000 crore in the oil and gas sector of the state, setting up crude oil pipeline from Odisha’s Paradeep and connecting the gas grid from Barauni, augmentation of Numaligarh Refinery’s production capacity from 3 MTPA to 9 MTPA, setting up of a bio fuel production unit at NRL with an investment of nearly Rs. 1600 crore etc., Sonowal asserted that the state was on the path of economic resurgence and industrial growth in view of such initiatives of the government. He urged members of the young generation to take advantage of this changing positive scenario and strive hard to achieve excellence in all fields. Once Assam is connected to the gas grid from Barauni the tea industry would be rejuvenated alongwith the thermal power projects at Lakwa, Namrup etc., he reiterated. Saying that the state government is committed to protect the interest of the indigenous people and there should not be any doubt in anyone’s mind regarding this, Sonowal stated that the state government is taking steps to provide land pattas to 1 lakh landless indigenous people of the state to ensure local people’s rights over the land. Without land rights the greater Assamese identity cannot be protected and therefore the state government is making sincere efforts in this regard. He also highlighted constitution of awards in the name of Sarkardev, Madhavdev and Kalicharan Brahma to give recognition to all those who are working for state’s development in different fields.
