EC to arrange IT facilities on each polling station in West Bengal
- 159 polling stations and 1019 polling booths without internet facility Kolkata, Mar.09 (HS): Election Commission (EC) has been making arrangement to monitor each polling station in West Bengal. Arrangements are being made to directly monitor every voting center through phone and internet. Sanjay Sahu, additional chief electoral officer on Saturday said that there are 159 polling booths in the state without phone facility and 1019 without internet facilities. So, there is a need to ensure proper monitoring for peaceful polling on these stations, he emphasized. He expected of bringing all the polling stations under monitoring zone before the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. He further said that in the areas where surveillance system could not be ensured, the decision of deployment of the additional number of Central Jawans will be decided by the District Election Officer, Police Officer and central forces. This year the Commission has directed that all reserved EVMs and VVPAT vehicles will be compulsory connected with GPS tracking. Through the GPS, senior officials of the State Election Commission will be able to monitor the entire voting process. It is notable that West Bengal has been notorious for electoral violence and therefore conducting peaceful voting here is a big challenge for the EC. Hindusthan Samachar/Ashwani/Pramod \
