Govt tells SC documents of Rafale deal stolen as MoD also confirms
New Delhi,Mar.6 (HS): The Government on Wednesday told the Supreme Court that several important documents pertaining the Rafale deal were found missing from the Ministry of Defence(MoD) and several petitioners seeking a review of the controversial deal relied on these documents. The three Judge bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi,Justices SK Kaul and KM Joseph began the hearing as the three main petitioners Arun Shourie, Yashwant Sinha and Prashant Bhushan who jointly filed the petitions opposing the deal alleged that the Centre tried to conceal important facts in the aircraft deal when the SC quashed many PILs earlier filed in the December hearing. Earlier ,the Attorney General KK.Venugopal had opposed lawyer and key petitioner, Prashant Bhushan opposing his argument stating the article of ''The Hindu'' journalist N.Ram which was based on the stolen documents and an investigation is underway. The AG Venugopal has criticised Bhushan saying the Official Secrets Act has been violated by certain critical documents being stolen. Bhushan in his argument to the court said that the Central government has concealed certain critical facts in purview of deal.The CJI while hearing Bhushan said that the Court was not taking on record all the documents in the Rafale deal while questioning the Attorney General to explain the kind of action the Central government took on theft of documents regarding the deal.
