Guwahati, March 5 (HS): Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that considering the vast human resources available in the state, State government is drawing a road map for judiciously using science and technology as force multiplier for state’s human resource development. Speaking on the occasion of the State Level Function of National Science Day-2019 at Assam Administrative College here today, Chief Minister Sonowal said that for a prudent utilization of the State’s verdant human resources an optimum use of technological solutions could go a long way in achieving the desired results. He also said, “Science gives us light and in search of light we should all seek the knowledge of science”. Referring to the theme of this year’s Science Day which is ‘Science for people and people for science’, Chief Minister Sonowal stressed on the need for taking science nearer to the people so that people in general generates love for it (science). He also said that his government ever since has come to power has taken several steps for popularizing science. Chief Minister Sonowal synchronizing with the occasion also presented State Science Awards. On the occasion, he presented Life Time Award to Climate Scientist of international repute who is known for his discovery of the ‘Indian Ocean Dipole Mode’ Dr. Bhupendra Nath Goswami, Young Scientist Award to Dr. Manashita Borah, an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering of Tezpur University who was chosen for her contribution in the field of biomedical implementation, automated waste water treatment, etc. The CSIR-North East Institute of Science and Technology (formerly RRL-Jorhat) has been chosen for the award of the Best Scientific Organisation for promotion of science and technology for the benefit of society, it may be noted.
