Maha Sivaratri being celebrated in Bengal with enthusiasm
Kolkata, 4 March (HS); Amid an overcast sky and smart shower in several areas,Maha Sivaratri, the worship of lord Mahadev,is being celebrated across West Bengal along with rest of the country today with huge enthusiasm apart from performing day long prayers and organising devotional songs in Ramakrishna Math and Mission and various other temples across the state. Since this morning thousands of devotees from all walks of life, particularly the women of all ages, have assembled before the state''s numerous Shiv temples including those at Tarakeswar and Tarapith in Hooghly district,to offer their prayers to lord Mahadeva. As per the century old Hindu religious rituals and customs, they have come to seek protection from the All Mighly from all types of danger in life and seek his blessings for the entire family as always. Since the day break today, prayers have been arranged in all centres of the Ramakrishna and Vivekananda Math and Mission in the city and in numerous Shiv temples in all other districts elsewhere in the state. Steps have also been taken by the Ramakrishna Mission and Tarakeswar temple authorities to enable thousands of women to come and offer their prayers in systematic manners. In many places temporary sheds have been constructed in front of the temple complex to organise day long devotional songs of the deities, which is also being attended by thousands of devotees. Interestingly, as per the custom and religious beliefs, unmarried young women are also performing the puja of the lord Mahadeva and have been seeking his blessings for a hassle free marriage in future. Though till this afternoon there is no report of any untoward incident in connection with the Maha Sivaratri celebration from any part of West Bengal,an overcast sky with the possibility of heavy rain may cause some disruption in the day long programmes. According to the local met office,as per their prediction some South Bengal districts are already in the grips of heavy rain accompanied by strong wind, hampering the devotees attempts to offer prayers in a hassle free manner.
