Kolkata, 28 February (HS): In order to enhance the passengers travel experience in Indian Railways and bring greater transparency in the entire operation, a new facility for public viewing of Train charts and vacant berths has been launched in the Indian Railway system.Informing this Eastern Railway sources here today said, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal launched the new facility across the country in presence of Railway Board Chairman V.K. Yadav, Member Traffic, Railway Board Girish Pillai and several other Railway Board Members at a function in New Delhi yesterday.Highlighting the new facility, introduced for the first time in the country, the sources said the information about occupancy in trains as per Passenger Reservation Charts would now be available for public view on the internet through IRCTC website (www.irctc.co.in). ''This will facilitate the prospective passengers in getting the information of vacant berths available in the train even after the chart preparation'', the sources informed and added that complete information of vacant berths from train as well as from intermediate locations would now be made available to the user. Prospective customer could now use the information for online booking of vacant berths or through TTE as per business rules and this facility was now available in web as well as mobile version, they said.''This new feature in ticketing system is a dynamic system which will keep upgrading itself as the train proceeds for the destination and make it more transparent as passengers can see the real time availability of berths'', the sources quoting the union minister said.Moreover, they said, IRCTC would soon have 30 additional kitchen bases, each equipped with cameras for public viewing, and biodegradable packing of food prepared in these kitchen bases would be served to passengers to maintain the top quality of food during the transit. PoS machines will be made available to all TTEs and Catering staff on board for lodging complaints, if any. According to Girish Pillai, Member Traffic, Railway Board within the next three weeks all Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains tickets could be booked even after the release of the second booking charts 30 minutes before the departure of the train, the sources added.
