Indian Green Building Council award goes to Earthbags this year..


July 6 (HS) The Indian Green Building
Council (IGBC) today awarded the  Green
manufacturing facility of 'Earthbags', a city based leading manufacturers and
exporters of environment friendly bags, for conforming to Green Building
Standards. thereby making  a  significant stride towards environmental

The facility
in Kolkata which is also Eastern India’s first IGBC-rated Green Factory
Building under MSME category, has also secured a 'Gold rating' under Green
Factory Building Rating System.

this  Anurag Himatsingka, Managing
Director, Earthbags Export told Hindusthan Samachar here that their 50,000
square feet. facility was adjudged as an achiever of a certification level of
‘Gold’ and had been recognised having attained ‘National Excellence’ by IGBC
when it earned a total credit points between 71 and 80, thereby satisfying all
mandatory requirements laid down under Green Factory Building Rating System.

The award
was also  evaluated  in terms of several other  Green features like Site Selection and
Planning, Water,Energy and Material Conservation, Indoor Environmental Quality
and Design Processes among others., Himatsingka said adding "Millions of
gallons of potable water were saved each year through their rainwater
harvesting system."

the factory uses LED lights which are free of any chemical which can be
hazardous for the environment or public health."Producing only
environmentally-friendly bags was not enough for us. Our vision is to ensure a
sustainable future," remarked Himatsingka.
