Atiq Ahmed house in posh Civil Lines area demolished ..

Prayagraj , September 8 (HS) : A house illegally occupied by former MP Atiq Ahmed located on Nawab Yusuf Road under Civil Lines police station of Prayagraj, was demolished by the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) officials in the presence of heavy police force on Monday. The ex-MP is currently languishing in Sabarmati Jail of Ahemdabad in Gujarat.

Instructions to demolish the building built on nazul land were issued a few days ago. This construction was spread over an area of 600 square yards. District administration recently ordered the attachment of seven of his immovable properties worth over Rs 70 crore. Another 20 properties have been identified for action even as 16 firms linked to Ahmad and his gang are also under scrutiny.

In the ongoing war on mafia, the district administration had earlier on Saturday razed Madras Hotel located near Allahabad High Court, Pani Ki Tanki Crossing, which was constructed on nazul land. Imran, a close relative of Atiq Ahmed, has invested money in the hotel. The clampdown is being carried out chiefly under Section 14(1) of the Gangsters Act, which allows attachment of illegal properties, in order to effectively curb gangsters, mafias and criminals and their associates, the officials said.

A five-time MLA and a one-time Lok Sabha MP, Ahmad has 124 criminal cases against him. He has been named in cases of murder, abductions, illegal mining, extortion, intimidation and fraud, among others.
