Raigunj (North Dinajpur),Aug 04 (HS) In a tragic incident two jawans of the Border Security Force (BSF) were shot dead from point blank range by one of their colleagues during an altercation on duty near Indo-Bangladesh border last night in North Dinajpur district of North Bengal.

As per reports three BSF jawans were on a patrol duty at Bhatun village on the Indo-Bangladesh border last night when an altercation reportedly broke out among them on a minor issue following which one of the jawans  Uttam Sutradhar  suddenly opened fire from his automatic rifle on two of his colleagues Mahinder Singh Vatti and Anuj Kumar killing them on the spot.

A number of villagers who rushed to the spot hearing the firing at around 4 am today, reportedly found Sutradhar standing near the bodies in a shocked condition. However, soon Sutradhar left the spot and went to his barrack and surrendered before the Commanding Officer there acknowledging his crime. He was immediately taken into custody and arrested.

“We still do not know why Sutradhar committed such a horrific crime despite knowing its consequences,” the sources said and added that an investigation had already begun to trace the reasons behind the incident.

Meanwhile, the bodies of both the deceased BSF jawans were sent for post mortem before they were sent to their respective villages for last rites in full honour, the sources added.

The incident has also brought gloom within the small BSF battalion near Bhatun village on the Indo-Bangladesh border, about 250 km from here.
