Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi tests positive for Covid-19..


New Delhi, July 4 (HS) Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi announced that he has tested positive for Covid-19 and is in self-isolation.

Taking to the twitter, Qureshi said, “This afternoon I felt a slight fever and immediately quarantined myself at home. I have now tested positive for Covid 19. By the grace of Allah, I feel strong and energetic. I will continue to carry on my duties from home. Please keep me in your prayers.”

Incidentally, Qureshi had held a meeting with Zalmay Khalilzad, the US special representative for Afghanistan reconciliation, on Wednesday at the foreign office in Islamabad. Khalilzad was accompanied by the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) chief executive officer, Adam Boehler.

A number of high officials have tested positive for Covid-19 in Pakistan, including Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed and the speaker of the lower house of parliament, Asad Qaiser. Earlier in June, Munir Khan Orakzai, a member of the Pakistan national assembly, died days after recovering from Corona virus. Besides, eight members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly were also tested Corona positive.

Pakistan has reported 221,896 cases of the Corona virus and 4,451 deaths. The country has continued to see around 4,000 new cases on a daily basis, despite daily testing numbers falling. Globally, 10 million people have been tested positive for Covid-19 and more than 5 lakh 29 thousand deaths have been reported.
