Prayagraj , September 8 (HS) The State government on Tuesday suspended senior superintendent of police, Prayagraj, Abhishek Dixit. The action, according to home department sources, against Dixit was taken for his casual approach in dealing with law and order situation along with charges of corruption leveled against him. Dixit was made SSP Prayagraj on June 16, replacing Satyarth Anirudh Pankaj.

Spokesperson of Home Ministry, however, said Dixit failed to control crime in the district. He also failed to take preventive measures to check the activities of the criminals that led to law and order problems in the city, he said. The suspended SSP is also charged with failure to adhere the guidelines and instructions of the government/headquarters properly and is accused of promoting corruption, he added.

The spokesperson said the SSP did not act on government instructions for foot patrolling and increasing security of banks and business establishments against incidents of robbery. There was a steady increase in crime cases in Prayagraj in the past three months, the spokesperson said, adding the government instructions on social-distancing were also not followed properly in the district, for which the high court had also expressed its displeasure.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi said that senior superintendent of police has been suspended for his failure to control crime and corruption and maintain law and order. Decision to suspend the SSP was taken after multiple allegations against the officer of indulging in corrupt practices for transfer and posting were reported to the government. Also, many complaints were made against Dixit for not following instructions from the police headquarters. The officer was also not found undertaking any checking drive of banks and financial institutions and patrolling in the district while there was also no reduction on pendency of cases.

During his suspension, Dixit will remain attached to the Director General of Police Office in Lucknow.
