Stokes will not be able to contribute more with the ball in the third Test: Joe Root.

Manchester, July 24, (HS) England captain Joe Root said that the bowling ability of Ben Stokes ahead of the third Test match remains a question mark.

Trailing 0–1 after losing the first match of the series, the England team made a great comeback on the back of Stokes in the second match. Stokes had a brilliant innings of 176 and 78 not out respectively in both innings of the second Test, besides he also took three wickets.

Stokes was feeling stiff in his body after the second test. Root said that if Stokes would play, he would not be able to contribute much with the ball.

Stokes is suffering from a quadriceps injury and will be assessed before the start of Friday's game.

Root emphasized that there is no point in the fact that Stokes will not play the match, but any doubt on their ability to bowl will affect team selection.

“He spent more time on the field in the last match, but it is very difficult to keep him away from work,” Root said.

He said, “We will see how it is in the morning but if you look at our squad, we will get a lot of great options to choose from. Any combination we do is clearly capable of taking 20 wickets.”

The three-match Test series between England and West Indies is on par 1-1. The final and decisive match of the series will be played at Old Trafford from Friday.
