Haryana Govt appoints Babita Phogat and Kavita Devi Deputy Director of Sports.

New Delhi, July 31 (HS): Commonwealth Games gold medalist women wrestler Babita Phogat and 2014 Asian Games gold medalist Kabaddi player Kavita Devi have been appointed Deputy Director of Sports by the Haryana Government. 

The Principal Secretary of the Haryana Sports and Youth Affairs Department made these appointments under the Haryana Outstanding Players (Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2018 in two separate orders. 

In a tweet, Babita thanked Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and state Sports Minister Sandeep Singh for this appointment. 

She tweeted, "Thank you very much to Hon'ble Chief Minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar ji, Hon'ble Rajya Sabha MP and In-charge of Haryana Anil Jain ji, Hon'ble Sports Minister Sandeep Singh ji for appointing me as Deputy Director in Sports Department Haryana." 

Babita won a silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi and a gold medal at the 2014 Glasgow CWG. She won a silver medal at the Gold Coast in 2018 and a bronze at the World Championship Wrestling in 2012.

The 30-year-old Babita entered politics in 2019. She joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to contest the Assembly elections from Dadri constituency. However she lost the election and finished third.
