Former French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko withdraws from US Open.

New York, Aug 25 (HS): Former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko is the latest player to pull out from the US Open, according to the US Open organizers.

Ostapenko, who won her only major title in 2017, last competed at the Qatar Open in February, where she finished in the final 16. Ostapenko has slipped to 42nd place in the world rankings. 

Six of the world's top 10 women players have already pulled out of the US Open. 

World number one Ash Barty, number two Simona Halep, defending champion Bianca Andreescu, Alina Svitolina, Kiki Bertens and Belinda Bencic have all decided to leave Grand Slam in New York.

The US Open will be held next week from August 31 at Flushing Meadows, New York. The tournament will be played in an empty stadium without spectators.
