Colombo, Aug 01 (HS): Former Indian allrounder Irfan Pathan has expressed his desire to play in the inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) starting from August 28. Pathan is among 70 foreign players who have shown interest in playing in LPL.

It is believed that Pathan has taken permission from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to participate in the competition. The BCCI does not allow active players to participate in other T-10 leagues but Pathan announced his retirement in January this year.

Former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh also played in a foreign league last year. He played for the Maratha Arabians in the T10 League in Abu Dhabi. Pathan will be put into the player draft until one of the five franchises select him as a marquee player.

The draft details and the franchise owners are yet to be finalized and announced. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is also awaiting some government approval.

The five franchises will represent Colombo, Candy, Galle, Dambulla and Jaffna. The SLC Executive Committee has already approved for the tournament.
