London, Feb 03 (HS): The protest against the arrest of Manzoor Pashteen, founder and human rights activist of the Pashtun Tehfuz Movement (PTM), has started on Monday here. A large number of Pashtuns living in Britain and Europe demonstrated in London on Monday morning.

Manzoor Pashteen was taken into custody in Pakistan's Peshawar along with nine others from his Pashtun Protection Movement on January 26.

Protesters gathered in front of the Pakistani embassy demanded the release of Pashteen. Meanwhile, the human rights organization Amnesty International has also condemned Pashteen 's arrest and demanded his immediate and unconditional release.

The PTM has been raising voice against the policies of the Pakistani Army in the tribal areas of the country. The 25-year-old Manzoor Ahmed Pashthan, son of a primary school teacher, has been continuously raising the problems of Pashtun people. Pashtun people are also known as Pathans. This Pashtun is an ethnic group living in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

There are about 30 million Pashtuns in Pakistan, which is 15 percent of the total population of the country. However, the anti-Pashtun sentiment is in full swing in both countries. There have been reports that Pashtun people have been treated badly by the Pakistan army in the last decade and their population is being destroyed.
