New Delhi, July 31 (HS): Biju George, the coach of wicketkeeper batsman Sanju Samson, believes that he will have a golden opportunity to confirm his place in the T20 World Cup 2021 squad through the Indian Premier League (IPL) to be held in September.

Samson was only 11 years old when he started his coaching in Thiruvananthapuram under Menprshikshn Biju George. At the time , George was a cricket coach at the Sports Authority of India's Cricket Training Center.

The IPL 2020 is scheduled to be held in the UAE from 19 September, while next year , the league is expected to be played in its normal window (March-May).

The T20 World Cup to be played in Australia this year has been postponed due to the Coronovirus epidemic.

George said, "I think it is a golden opportunity to make their way close to World Cup 2021 team, through IPL 2020. If you look at his white ball career, he continues on this, and I am sure he will do well in the IPL."

He said , " I don't think there will be any pressure on Samson to go on to play IPL. This year, he has done maximum preparation in Trivandrum , I have never seen him focus so much on his game. He still works while we were in lockdown."

The 25-year-old Samson will represent Rajasthan Royals in the IPL this year.

Samson has played 93 matches in the IPL so far , in which he has scored 1,696 runs at an average of 27.61 and his highest score is 102 not out.

Samson has been part of India's T20 squad for the last six months , but has not got a chance to play in the playing XI. Since then , Samson's exit from the playing XI has been the subject of severe criticism.

First , Rishabh Pant was given a chance over Samson and later KL Rahul started to perform permanently as the first choice wicket keeper in the white ball format.

George said , " Every cricketer in the Indian dressing room knows that the IPL is where Sanju Samson comes to play. He has played some great innings in this tournament."

He said, " Rishabh Pant is a left-handed batsman, compared to KL Rahul and Sanju Samson, he may have to bear the brunt of it. But nowadays, you do not care whether you are left handed or right handed."

Samson has played 4 T20 matches for India so far, scoring 35 runs. He was last seen in a T20 match against New Zealand earlier this year.
